Floods in Queensland and Holidays

By: Elaine Rose

Hi everyone,
I had a wonderful restful two weeks off work over Christmas and the New Year, now it's back to the grindstone!
I feel so sad for the people in Queensland who are suffering from the torrential rain and flooding, I cannot imagine what it must be like going back to find your homes and businesses a sodden mess; treasured items and stock ruined; and jobs lost due to the damage. It must be an awful struggle cleaning it up, and trying to get your life back on track. Our thoughts and best wishes are with you all.
Not forgetting the farmers who have lost their bumper crops after years of drought. Let's not forget them when we have to pay more for produce at the supermarket, and the fact that much of it will be rotting in the paddocks, simply because they can't get to it, or get it to market because of the flooded roads.
We flew over the flooded areas as you can see in one of my photos, it's unbelievable to see so much water. We saw gut-wrenching pictures on the local TV news, but with their typical Australian spirit, most people weren't going to give up. Sadly, several (10 at the last count) have lost their lives as a direct consequence of the floods. My sympathy goes out to their families.
The Ross River dam is full and overflowing, as you can see in the photo.
Our granddaughters are having great fun on the creatures at the park, and I had to include a typical tropical photograph to show that it wasn't raining all of the time!

Just when you think it can't get any worse, Toowoomba and the surrounding areas are hit by a devastating wall of water last night. Our thoughts and prayers go out to those who have lost family and friends; their homes, businesses and personal belongings.
