MERRY CHRISTMAS, HAPPY FESTIVE SEASON OR HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ONE AND ALL

By: Elaine Rose

I'd like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. As we break up today we are all tired and looking forward to our break.
Are you as disorgansied for Christmas as I am? If so I have a great idea for decorating your Christmas cake at the last minute (Sorry Mum, I know this is not how you would have done it).
I had covered the top with marzipan and plastic icing, but I couldn't find the decorations. They're in a safe place somewhere - if only I could find it. I had a roll of wide, wired ribbon so I thought I'd use it around the cake. When I cut it to length, I found I had enough for a bow. Finding a small length left over, I laid it across the centre of the cake, tucking the ends into the band. I secured the bow in the middle, then used a small gift card to finish it off. Voila! One decorated cake that looks like a beautifully wrapped gift, and only took minutes to do. If only gift shopping was as quickly done...
BTW my mother was a prolific cake decorator who would have made and decorated hundreds of fruit cakes for weddings, Christmas, birthdays and many other special occasions.
We'll see you in the new year with lots of new things to inspire you.
