Aloha
When my husband and I decided to go to Hawaii, we didn't know quite what to expect, other than that everyone we told who had been there previously, had only positive comments. Many returned each year.
We went with open minds, determined to relax and enjoy ourselves. The weather was perfect.
We landed in Honolulu, then took an inter-island flight to Kauai. We were picked up from the airport by the shuttle bus for the short ride to the resort. First impressions, very green and lush - one of the peaks on this island has the highest rainfall in the world - and I've never seen so many chooks!
Our resort was wonderful, beautiful pools, nice room and delicious food, extremely friendly and helpful staff; plus they make the best Lava Flows ever! While we were there a master quilter and two of her pupils had a display with items for sale. How lucky was that? This beautiful lady, Florence Muraoka, was so interesting to talk to about traditional Hawaiian quilts. Her mother had taught her the traditional methods. I'll tell you more in AP&Q. We did a short tour up the only navigable river on the island to see the lush green Fern Grove, then we attended a luau which was amazing. Beautiful grounds, great food, so well organised and an amazing show afterwards with dances from all the Polynesian peoples who made up the original population of Hawaii.
After a short three nights, it was time to head back to Honolulu for the remainder of our stay.
My first photo is of the resort in Lihue on Kauai, then you couldn't go to Hawaii without seeing hibiscus, taking the pig out of the pit, and a Hawaiian quilt on display at our hotel in Waikiki.
Our stay in Kauai was too short because we didn't have time to visit the local patchwork shop or the museum, where I believe they have a collection of quilts.
Our stay was too short; we want to go back again, and again...
I'll tell you more about our stay in Waikiki soon. Mahalo
