WHAT MAKES A GOOD COVER ENTRY?

  • Your work should be a unique, original piece that is eye-catching and stands out from the crowd.
  • Your cushion or bolster can be made from any combination of hand-embroidery, appliqué or patchwork, but may not measure more than 50cm (20in) in either length or width.
Terms and Conditions

1. Information on how to enter forms part of the conditions of entry. Entry is free and open to all residents of Australia who have never had a project published in Patchwork & Stitching, Australian Country Craft & Decorating, Creating Country Threads or Handmade magazine and must not have entered the item in a competition or show prior to entering this competition. Employees of Express Publications Pty Limited ACN 057 807 904 (“Express”) and their subsidiaries and families are not eligible to enter.

2. The competition commences 20th August, 2010 and closes 5pm on 17th September, 2010. The winner will be chosen at 50 Silverwater Road, Silverwater NSW 2128 at 4pm on 1st October, 2010, and the winner will be notified by phone or email.

3. The competition is conducted by Express Publications Pty Ltd, 2 Stanley Street, Silverwater NSW 2128.

4. The official entry form must accompany each entry. Complete it and attach it to a photograph of the work you are entering, or send both in by email.

5. Each entry must be the entrant’s own work, their own original design – for copyright reasons, entering a version of another designer’s work will not be considered by the judging panel.

6. Entry forms and photographs must arrive at 50 Silverwater Rd, Silverwater NSW 2128 or by email to: pws@expresspublications.com.au no later than 17th September, 2010.

7. Preliminary judging is based on the photographs, then the selected finalists will be required to submit their original work for studio photography and the final judging. Express will not pay for any costs associated with a finalist supplying the original work but will pay for the costs (excluding postal insurance) of returning the original work to a finalist by pre paid ordinary post.

8. All cushions and bolsters sent in for final judging must include the insert and have a label with the maker’s name, address and phone number.

9. All finalists will be requested to send in a portrait photograph of themselves and consent to Express reproducing and publishing their image throughout the world, which we may use in all media formats including print, electronic or any other publishing medium.

10. The competition winner will have their project published in one of our craft magazines (for no additional remuneration) and will be required to enter into our hobbyist or independent contractor project agreement which will include, inter alia, supplying us with instructions for the project, allowing us permission to photograph the project and providing us with a royalty free licence to create a pattern.

11. The winner will be decided by a panel appointed by Patchwork & Stitching, Australian Country Craft & Decorating, Creating Country Threads or Handmade magazine. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. All entries will be judged on their originality, visual impact, design, use of colour, workmanship and overall creativity.

12. Entrants agree and acknowledge that by entering the competition they consent to any activity the performance of which would otherwise infringe their moral rights by Express. All entrants’ contact details may be used for promotional purposes by Express. Our privacy policy can be found at www.expresspublications.com.au/privacy/.

13. The total prize value is $500. There is one prize only. The promoter is Express Publications Pty Limited, 2 Stanley Street, Silverwater NSW 2128 (02) 9741 3800. Entry forms and photographs submitted will not be returned to the entrants.
