Vaniquilt

By: vaniroy

This is my blog about my journey in setting up my quilting business "Vanita's Quilting Services". After a long career in IT, I am looking to change direction. I want to do something that I enjoy and have a passion for, rather than sitting in boring meetings, rushing to meet crazy deadlines and listening to IT jargon all day.

French Circle by Chris Jurd

For those of you who'd like to make Chris Jurd's stunning table topper, French Circle, which appeared in Australian Country Craft and Decorating Volume 22 Number 10, please take note of the following amendment to the text:

On page 74 under Construction it currently reads:

"Make two more joined strip-sets in the same way then join them together, pressing the seams in one direction."

It should read:

"Make FIVE more joined strip-sets in the same way then join them together, pressing the seams in one direction."

Sew Me Silly!!!! Finish 100 items in 100 days.

Sew me Silly: Finish one hundred items in 100 days

Welcome to the day that is, the day that starts it all, the day when I think I might be a better person; the day when I begin the finishing off of one hundred things in one hundred days.

I love to sew, to embroider, to pick and nick and tuck and rip.

Mostly I love sewing for my grandchildren - six of them under six and one on the way - designer outfits, appliqué play clothes, dolls and toys.

I love to sew for my daughters and my son- quilts mostly.

Comments

So you know the day has not quite gone the way you expected when you squeeze chocolate sauce on your chippy sandwich!!!!!!

Had a Curriculum meeting today and the boss brought along hot chips. Clearly an example of not trusting the label, the BBQ sauce was replaced with chocolate sauce. Not that I am a fan of sauce at all - but when you have already been at school for 9 hours, have marked 52 responses and taught four classes you are not perhaps reading as you should.

Anyway. After another meeting I am home, 13 hour day. woo hoo.

I have revived and rejuvenated with Chai tea and managed to add three more owls to the finished list.

Black and white spotty own and two friends. Down to 87 items with 97 days to go.

Very happy.

MY HOLIDAY IN BEAUTIFUL HAWAII

Aloha
When my husband and I decided to go to Hawaii, we didn't know quite what to expect, other than that everyone we told who had been there previously, had only positive comments. Many returned each year.
We went with open minds, determined to relax and enjoy ourselves. The weather was perfect.

Sideline season

By: admin

The changing seasons bring about a different sideline for our family, and I'm preparing another portable hand-pieced project. You may have seen some giftwrapping paper that's been inspired by vintage quilts...I've drafted the continuous-chain design to share with my patchwork friends and worked up a test block that's 3in x 6in finished size.
It's a scrappy project - the original was made with prints of any colour, mostly reds and dark-value ones. My could end up all reds and browns, with a dash of yellow, I'll see how the 200+ blocks come together.

Autumn is sewing weather

By: Elaine Rose

I decided to lay out the blocks I'd made of Bonny Hunter's scrappy Carolina Christmas quilt today, but I had to delay sewing them together due to some unwanted assistance. The blocks are sewn into rows now, but due to the delay, I didn't get the rows together! What is it about cats and quilts? When she finally moved she decided to annoy hubby who was using his laptop by making herself comfortable on the carry bag. Chino always knows how to get attention.

Comments

When I spread my quilt top out to pin it to the batting and backing, I had to stop working on it because my cats decided it was their new bed! Also when I set a quilt up in a stand to baste it, one of my cats hid underneath and made himself at home. I know if I made a quilt specifically for them, they would ignore it -- they just want to be where they're not supposed to be!

They are amazing creatures aren't they? They know how to get our attention. Marianne's cat likes to use the quilt she has on the frame to machine-quilt, as a hammock.

Lunchtime activities

By: admin

Here's a work in progress in the sewing bag patiently awaiting completion. It's the border for a quilt that is entered in the 2010 Sydney Quilt Show. At lunchtime I'm either working on this or other projects in the lunchroom or across the road, dining with this charming four-legged friend that Danielle, Elaine and I have named Tuxedo.
