Tea-Dying

Tips type:
Quick tips

To give quilter’s muslin an antique look, use Parisian essence to dye it. Combine one tablespoon of Parisian essence with one litre of warm water and soak the quilter’s muslin for 10 minutes. Line dry, then press it with a hot iron to set the colour. We suggest you test a small piece of the fabric first to get the desired colour. This will allow you to adjust the solution to make it weaker or stronger to suit your needs.

I am going to try it tommorrow, It sounds good.

What is parisian essence

I have never used parisian essence so I will have to try this out! My "recipe" for tea dying is to wet the piece of material, squeeze out excess water, sprinkle tea leaves on it and then gently roll the piece up, place in microwave and "cook for about 30 seconds (approximately) it gives a nice speckled look.

I'm new to this folks. Are you supposed to rinse the fabric after the dyeing process?

I have used teabags and coffee, then rinsed. I never seem to get much colour change.

Will this work better than coffee, that leaves a pink look.

This is a realy great tip & will be trying it out. Can you tell me if the same soloution will work on other fabric ex- linen's 'white'
